'Hold on to your Chai Lattés!', the new album by the Aulich/Wood Trio, is a mostly-improvised nose dive into a murky sea of squeaks, glitches, Hull City footballers and kitchenware percussion. Taking the free music of Evan Parker's Electro-Acoustic ensemble in a DIY direction, 'Chai Lattés' is the result of a series of recording sessions on a moored narrowboat mutated with field recordings, granular synthesis and very long bass clarinet notes.

This is our autopsy report on a site of production we knew only through its death throes. No industry has a funeral; only a protracted rigor mortis. Push on its chest a little and it will foam at the mouth. Chemical mucuses bagged and tagged, oxygenated skin flakes sampled, and a groan, as the gasses of decay escape: labourers banging and hammering some distant machine. Not a man by half measures, for every excess in his medical record an appraisal: testament to good health, they said. We pull at his molars, hollow monoliths with gleaming crowns, erupted in gaps along a jawline too narrow, too short to contain them. Luxury apartments are empty, the fruits of excess energy and sound investment standing there with a slow unkempt beauty. Time pauses as the reverb stretches and all that is left is the afterglow of somebody smashing a chair leg with a frying pan. This record thrives on such futile exercises, and doesn't care for the background chatter of the chai latte drinker.
